Trading Up For Charity: Justin Morneau

So, remember yesterday when I said I had just made a couple of incredible trades? In reality, it was one trade split into two. Today’s post highlights, obviously, the new card that I received for Trading Up For Charity. Tomorrow I will talk about the incredible second half of the trade.

Don’t get me wrong. This portion of the trade is outright ridiculous. In fact, this is the best card that’s been featured in Trading Up For Charity to this point. Now, obviously, if you’ve read the title, then you’re well aware that the card in question is of one Justin Morneau. The question, however, is which Justin Morneau card is it?

Before I show and tell you, let’s first take a trip down memory lane and explore all of the cards that have come and gone in Crackin’ Wax’s Trading Up For Charity program.

The very first card that was put up was one from my own collection. A sad little blaster box gamer of a guy that most people have never heard of. I’m willing to bet that more people own Nirvana’s first record (anyone get the reference? anyone?).

CARD #1
Colt Morton

It took just over two months to finally get rid of that Morton and complete the first trade. A modest card, its increase in value comes from featuring a player that people have heard of–most likely due to having served time in the Major Leagues.

CARD #2
Vernon Wells

The next card was an incredible step up from the first two cards on the block. Not only was it a dual game used of two stars, it was also graded. It also marked the first time that a Twins card came my way. Trust me, I grit my teeth just a little bit every time I can’t keep a nice Twins card.

CARD #3
Torii Hunter/Jim Edmonds

Card number four was a slight move upwards in comparison to the previous trade. An autographed card of any Major Leaguer is nice. An autographed card of a star is better. An autographed Allen & Ginter framed mini of a star of this caliber is awesome.

CARD #4
Curtis Granderson

The subsequent trade came fairly quickly. Some told me that I had actually traded down. Normally, I would tend to agree. However, the sale value that it held during the trade said otherwise, and that’s ultimately the major factor in how I decide a card’s worth for this particular initiative. After all, the final card is going to be auctioned and the proceeds are going to charity. The more money we can make the more good we can do.

CARD #5
Chien-Ming Wang

And that is the card that got us where we are today. That is the card that I traded up to get the current card on the block. That is the card that some of you felt held little worth. That is the card the brought Trading Up For Charity’s most valuable card to date–by far.

Ready to see it?

You’re going to need to scroll a little.

Ya know, for suspense.

On a side note, I’m going to do everything I can to avoid The Biggest Loser Finale so I can watch it tomorrow with my wife, The Over-Thinker. DON’T SPOIL IT FOR US!! I swear, if Conda or Jeremy win, I’ll never watch The Biggest Loser ever again.
